Back in Blackpool for his mate’s thirtieth birthday, Shaun braces for a night out in the sea-side city he’d left behind. The nightclub is full. His mates haven’t changed. But as the sun rises, a chance encounter with a girl forces him to imagine a different future.

Alice Eaves is a writer and researcher from Blackpool, England. She is the editor of ‘Tiny Flames: Voices from Ukraine’ (Forest Publications, 2024) featured on BBC Scotland, and winner of the Writing East Midlands Solstice Prize for Nature Writing 2024. Golden Mile is her debut chapbook. She lives in Scotland, where she is a PhD Candidate in Creative Writing at the University of Edinburgh and SGSAH Intern at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.
